IN AN ORDINARY CONVERSATION WHEN ANYBODY GIVES YOU AN EXTRAORDINARY PIECE OF INFORMATION ABOUT SOMEONE OR SOMETHING, CHALLENGE THEM ‘WHERE DID YOU HEAR THAT? WHO TOLD YOU THAT? WHERE DID YOU GET THAT FROM?’
In this world most people don’t question the validity of the information transfered to them. Its difficult to challenge the regular channels of Print & Tv media* but we can make a start by questioning the validity of person to person information circulation. This does three things
1. It makes the person think what was my source of this information.
2. If it is just gossip with no apparent truth to it, you can make a smart decision to not transfer that information to another person.
3. Prepares you for a more stringent approach to journalistic blogging / reporting where your story is only as good as you information source.
* There will always be courageous journalists who challenge big media’s authenticity and their role in broadcasting deception and lies. We will be looking at some of their astounding findings later, but for now heres the trailer from an old documentary on this subject featuring linguistics professor Noam Chomsky its called Manufacturing Consent.
